Marshall County Community Punishment and Corrections Authority

The Marshall County Community Punishment and Corrections Work Release Facility was developed to house non violent offenders. The program was designed to offer the courts an alternative sentence for defendants in place of county jails / prison.  Without using tax payers money, this program houses non violent offenders while helping them obtain / maintain jobs with local agencies.  Their income is used to pay for their housing, weekly drug test, transportation, make regular weekly payments on their fines and restitution.  Any remaining money is returned to the inmate for their personal use and to help their families pay bills at home.  The Work Release Facility helps to keep county and city jails/ prisons available for defendants convicted of more serious crimes.

This facility also offers a program which monitors the collection of fine payments for the court systems.  These fine payments are mailed to the court system once per week.  If the defendants do not report to this office as scheduled, a delinquent report is sent to the Courts to show non compliance and they are required to report back to their sentencing Judge.  These services are largely utilized by local Municipal Courts as well as the District, Traffic and Circuit Courts within this county and surrounding counties.  This office charges a monthly monitoring fee of $30.00 for these services.

The facility also maintains an electronic monitoring program which closely oversees the monitoring of high risk defendants out on bond, and a victim awareness program which gives victims a monitor to alert them when a potential assailant, such as a stalker, gets too close.  This office charges a weekly monitoring fee of $65.00 for these services.

Office StaffMarshall County Community Punishment and Corrections Authority Work Release is an in-house work release program.  It is the only in-house work release in this area.  The surrounding counties in this area have begun to utilize our work release program in Marshall County.  We currently have inmates in our facility for Dekalb County, Cullman County, Jackson County and Etowah County.

The Work Release program has recently undergone an expansion to our male dormitory area.  We now currently house 98 male inmates and 22 female inmates for a total of 120 inmates, an increase of 22 male beds.  Another new addition to the facility is a new library for the inmates to use during the course of obtaining their GED.

Marshall County Community Corrections Work Release Program is a self supporting program.  The only outside money this office receives is the money received from the Department of Corrections, which is generated from our 10-point scale vouchers.

We currently offer Court Referral classes to the inmates through the Family Life Center in Guntersville, Alabama.  These classes are available twice a week.  We also offer classes for all inmates to obtain their GED.  Whether court ordered or if the inmate just has a desire to better themselves, we encourage everyone to attend.

As in the past, this program does house Institutional Diversions, however, we operate at full capacity just from our ‘Front End Diversions’ that are assigned to our program in court each week.
